I found this at After 8 Books in Paris this past May. I'd never heard of this artist but the size of the book drew me in. It's a large 16 x 12in hardcover printed on a nice textured newsprint. The paper feels heavier than regular newsprint and somewhere between 30-40 lbs. In other words, it feels great and has a nice bend to the paper. Much less delicate than newsprint which makes each page feel like a substantial printed work.
I bought it blindly based just on what I saw on the pages and how the book felt. Each page is a collage of photos by Andro Wekua on Georgian newspapers collected between 2020 - 2021.
The Georgian alphabet alone has enough to keep me entertained but the typography throughout is really playful and I was surprised to see so much variation and color in the " News ". I can't read Georgian, so the text and images don't interact with each other past what I can visually interpret. However, these collages were still fun to "read".
Below are some of my favorite pages. You can read more about it and the artist Andro Wekua at KONA BOOKS.
